Since, practicing in psychiatry, I always come to hear the same typical complaint from all the relatives specially while taking the detailed history of admitted patients(specifically, while evaluating the biofunctions) that they don’t eat at all the homemade food and prefer to order online food ( Swiggy,Zomato and bla bla)
In today’s era, most of the mothers are working, and prefer to order online fast food in between. Gradually , it becomes a routine. Fast food is excellent in taste, pocket friendly and gets served at your doorstep in a very short duration and sometimes in a jiffy. I always used to wonder how it’s possible for the food suppliers to provide the ordered menu so swiftly ?
Then, after doing some research, I came to know that they add some preservatives, additives in the food to make it tastier. Some of the gravies are deeply frozen for weeks together to maintain the taste and freshness of the food. That is the reason, I feel the food additives are actually addictive.
Ingestion of specific food additives can disrupt the neurotransmitters and hippocampus and induce neuroinflammation which may lead to psychosis, anxiety and depression, even substance dependence .High refined carbohydrates can lead to blood sugar fluctuations which can cause anxiety and confusion. Lack of omega 3 fatty acids can again lead to mental disturbance.
Because of the busy schedule of everyone, they generally prefer ordering the food online but at the same time we should be careful and particular about the quality of food we consume.
